CARE & MAINTENANCE FAQs

How to spot clean

Some things can’t be thrown in the washing machine – that’s where spot cleaning comes in.

Start with water. Gently blot the stain with a slightly damp cloth working from the outer edges towards the center to prevent spreading. If the stain is stubborn, mix water and a small amount of mild detergent and test a small, inconspicuous area with the cleaning solution to ensure it won't damage the material. Avoid excessive scrubbing to prevent damage. Once the stain is lifted, blot the area with a clean, dry cloth to remove any residue and excess moisture, and allow it to fully dry before use.

Be aware – while most surfaces can be spot cleaned, big stains should be treated according to the item’s care instructions.

What is the best detergent to use?

Opt for a gentle detergent when spot cleaning, such as something with a eucalyptus base, to maximise the lifespan of your fabrics. Choose detergents free of harsh chemicals and bleach to prevent damage, and consider those tailored for specific fabric types such as wool or silk. If you're in Australia, reputable brands such as Koala Eco, Ecostore and Bosisto’s offer quality options. These detergents are also good for those with allergies.

Look out for Optical Brightening Agents (OBAs) in the detergent to maintain the brilliance of whites and colour-safe options for your dark loads.

How to properly store bedding

Properly storing bedding is an underrated step in maintenance and care. Start by cleaning and thoroughly drying the bedding to ward off any mould or mildew during storage. Neatly fold the items to minimise wrinkles and save space. Store your bedding in a cool, dry space, such as a linen cupboard, either separately or next to similar-coloured fabrics. Some like to use breathable fabric bags to shield against dust while allowing air to circulate. Refold or launder as needed to keep your bedding in top-notch condition while it’s not in use!

Best way to iron bed linen

Some prefer their bedding lived in, and others prefer the hotel-like finish you get from ironing. If you fall into the latter category, start by checking the care instructions for guidance on ironing. Every fabric reacts differently to ironing; some prefer low heat, some prefer steam, and others should not be ironed at all.

Once you’re in the clear, ensure your bedding is clean and fully dry before placing it on an ironing board. Begin ironing with pillowcases, moving to the flat sheet and finishing with the fitted sheet. Focus on edges and hems before tackling larger areas. Work systematically, keep the iron moving to prevent scorching, and be extra-cautious with delicate fabrics. Once ironed, fold the sheets neatly to maintain a crisp, wrinkle-free finish.

Remember, the key to long-lasting luxury is in the details of care. Treat your bedding with the respect it deserves, and it will reward you with nights of unparalleled comfort. Sweet dreams and indulgent rest await you.
