What is a good thread count for quilt covers?

While thread count can indicate the quality of bedding material, it’s not the only thing that should be taken into consideration when purchasing bedding. Due to differences between each material and its construction, weave, workmanship, and design, the thread count between fabric options will differ. Rest assured we have taken the time to test different thread counts in order to find an optimal thread count for each material in our range where comfort meets durability. For further information on thread count, please refer to our thread count buying guide.

What size quilt cover do I need?

Quilt cover sizing in Australia is standardized, so even when you purchase quilt covers online, you’ll be safe knowing it’ll match the measurements of your doona. Simply choose the size that corresponds with your quilt size. If you’re unsure of your quilt size, take the measurements of your doona.

How do I choose the right quilt cover for me?

When shopping for quilt cover sets in Australia, the factors you should consider include the size, material, thread count, and appearance. Similarly to shopping for sheets and linen sets, you'll need to take into account which colors best suit your bedroom's aesthetic and what material is best for your needs.

What is a quilt cover?

A quilt cover is a protective sleeve that slips over a quilt or doona. Quilt covers have fasteners like buttons, zips, or press studs at one end. Cleaning a quilt cover is much easier than a doona, quilt, or comforter. Also, quilt covers protect the inner and are easy to remove and wash. They also allow you to change the look of your bedroom quickly and easily, without having to buy a new quilt or comforter.

BeddingCo stocks 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton quilt cover sets in a wide variety of colors. We also stock organic bamboo quilt cover sets with a 350 thread count. These quilt covers are hypo-allergenic, dust mite resistant, and environmentally friendly.

For more information about thread count, please refer to the Thread Count Guide.

How to put a quilt cover on quickly?

Put the cover on your quilt in 9 steps:

Turn the quilt cover inside out.

Lay the cover on the bed. Ensure the opening is at the foot of the bed.

Lay the quilt on top of the cover.

Working your way down from the head of the bed, roll the cover and quilt together.

Invert the quilt cover opening around the ends of both sides of your bedding roll.

Close the cover (either by fastening the buttons or using the zip).

Unroll the bedding the opposite way.

Hold each of the bottom corners (including the inner) firmly in each hand.

Give a quick shake to settle the quilt into the cover.

What is a duvet quilt cover?

A duvet quilt cover protects the inner quilt or duvet from dust and dirt. It is easy to remove because it has fasteners on one end. The words duvet, quilt, comforter, and doona are used interchangeably, although there are subtle differences between these items. Duvet, quilt, or doona covers are a relatively modern invention and are an improvement on traditional quilts and comforters, which are generally more cumbersome to wash.
