Pillow Guide

A good quality pillow is essential for a great night’s sleep. Your pillow should have an even balance of both support and comfort, providing the optimum support for your head, neck and shoulders. We spend up to one-third of our lives sleeping, so choosing the right pillow to sleep on is an extremely important decision.

Many industry experts emphasise that getting a good night’s sleep offers a whole host of benefits for our body, mind and general well-being. If your pillow is the wrong height or isn’t supportive enough, the muscles in your neck, shoulders and back are forced to compensate for this lack of support. Over time, this can lead to long-term back, neck or shoulder pain.

Organic Latex Pillows

Latex is derived from a mature rubber tree, making it a purely organic, carbon-neutral ingredient. Organic latex is a pesticide-free, sustainable and renewable resource. Bedding co organic latex pillows are natural, anti-bacterial, dust mite and mould resistant – perfect for a healthy yet comfortable night’s sleep! Organic latex pillows offer therapeutic support and have great moisture and heat dissipation properties.

These pillows are recommended by chiropractors because they provide excellent support for the neck and shoulders whilst also relieving pressure points – helping you sleep deeply throughout the night and feel fresh, healthy and rejuvenated when you wake the next day.

Our organic latex pillows come with removable 100% organic cotton covers for easy cleaning. We offer two types of organic latex pillows – classic and contour – both designed to relieve pressure points and alleviate the aches and pains associated with using the wrong pillows.

Cool Gel Memory Foam Pillows

Developed by NASA scientists, memory foam is made from a substance called viscoelastic, which is highly energy-absorbent and plush. Memory foam moulds to the body in response to pressure, helping to distribute body weight evenly. Once the pressure has been removed, the memory foam will then return to its original shape. Cool gel memory foam is an advanced version of standard memory foam. The cool gel component helps to disperse heat, keeping the body cool and allowing you to experience a more comfortable level of sleep.

Cool gel memory foam moulds to your neck and head and provides excellent support and comfort, making them suitable for most sleepers and are recommended by Chiropractors.

Hungarian Goose Down and Feather Pillows

Down is the light and fluffy coating beneath the feathers of waterfowl that helps to protect them from elements. Down itself is a three-dimensional cluster with thousands of tiny fibres but no quill. Down has the incredible ability to breathe – lifting away perspiration and eliminating the experience of clamminess, which can often occur with synthetics.

A down and feather pillow moulds and contours to your head and neck, creating a soft, luxurious and healthy sleeping experience. That allows you to wake up well-rested and ready to take on the day.

Bedding co down and feather pillows are certified under the Responsible Down Standard and is ethically sourced goose down. This ensures the birds welfare and freedoms, so consumers can be confident that the birds live healthy lives.

We have four sizes available: Standard (48cm x 73cm), Queen (51cm x 76cm), King (51cm x 91cm) and European (65cm x 65cm).

BEST PILLOW FOR SIDE, BACK AND STOMACH SLEEPERS

Best pillows for side sleepers

About 74% of people sleep on their side. Sleeping on your side isn’t bad for your spinal alignment, but because the position can cause pressure, it’s important to choose the right pillow.

Sleeping on your side leaves a gap between your head and your mattress. Your pillow must comfortably fill this gap to keep your upper back and neck aligned. Side sleepers need a pillow with good support and density, along with decent height.

Organic latex or cool gel memory foam pillows are recommended for side sleepers because they are supportive and provide the right level of height.

Best pillows for back sleepers

About 10% of people sleep on their back. Sleeping on your back is great for spinal alignment and is recommended for those who suffer from poor circulation or neck or back pain.

The best pillow for back sleepers will provide support to your neck and head. Back sleepers have the most options: organic latex, cool gel memory foam and down & feather. It really comes down to your personal preference for shape, firmness, and height of the pillow.

Best pillows for stomach sleepers Australia

About 16% of people sleep on their stomachs. Sleeping on your stomach forces your upper body and neck to curve unnaturally, so sleep experts recommend that stomach sleepers prop their bodies up with a large pillow to reduce excessive twisting. The best pillow for stomach sleepers will relieve excessive pressure on the neck, jaw and shoulders.

Down and feather pillows are recommended for stomach sleepers as this pillow can be scrunched and moulded to the height and shape you need.

Which Pillow is best for me?

Pillows can have a huge impact on sleep quality. In fact, using the wrong pillow can lead to headaches, neck pain, shoulder and arm numbness, discomfort, and even snoring and wheezing.

Pillows should not only be comfortable, they should also help keep your head ‘neutrally aligned’, meaning your neck and head are aligned with your spine.

FAQ

How do I know if my Pillow is too high?

You know your pillow is too high if your neck and head are not aligned with your spine. This will cause muscle strain on the neck and shoulders, and your spine will be out of alignment.

How do I know if my Pillow is too low?

You know your pillow is too low if your neck and head are not aligned with your spine. This will cause muscle strain on the neck and shoulders, and your spine will be out of alignment.

How often should you change your pillows?

Sleep experts have suggested replacing pillows every two years, but it really is up to you.

A major indicator of needing a new pillow is waking up feeling uncomfortable around the neck and shoulders, which could suggest your pillow is no longer providing proper support. Other indicators include increased allergies, stains and discolouration.

What are my options for a low allergen or hypo-allergenic Pillow?

All BeddingCo pillows are hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant. However, we have compiled a list of pillows that are best for allergy sufferers in order of preference:

  • Organic latex
  • Bamboo charcoal
  • Cool gel memory foam or down and feather filling
What is pillow loft?

The loft in goose down and feather pillows refers to how fluffy the pillow is. The higher the quality of the down, the higher the fill power, and, therefore, the higher the loft.

Interestingly, regardless of how fluffy the loft of a down and feather pillow is, you can scrunch and mould the pillow to suit your requirements.

How to wash a pillow?

We recommend using pillow protectors and covers to keep your pillow in the best possible shape and condition, we recommend using pillow protectors and covers. This will help protect the pillow from any accidental stains and spills, ensuring you get the healthiest possible night’s sleep.

In addition, the pillow itself should be aired frequently. Not only does this help remove body moisture absorbed during sleep, but it also refreshes the pillow. When washing pillows, always double-check the care instructions as they can vary according to each type of product.

How many pillows should I sleep on?

There’s no such thing as too many pillows, but when it comes to how many you need to support your head and neck, the answer should be one. If you’re finding yourself having to stack pillows to achieve optimum support, it’s probably time to invest in a thicker, more supportive pillow. Given that you spend a third of your life sleeping, it’s essential to make sure your spine is well aligned to avoid aches and pains.

Side and back sleepers may also sleep with an extra pillow supporting their knees.
